Death Toll Reaches 1,127 as 4,858 Remain Missing Across Nepal

Among those who died due to the devastating floods in Bhotekoshi in Rasuwa, 1,127 bodies have been found till this morning. Of which, 45 were found in Rasuwa, 155 in Nuwakot, 59 in Dhading, 348 in Chitwan, 66 in Gorkha, 38 in Tanahun, 217 in Nawalparasi East, 190 in Nawalparasi West and 9 in India.

According to Nepal Police, the post-mortem reports of 1,113 of the bodies found have been completed and 95 bodies have been handed over to their relatives. In addition, details of 911 unidentified bodies have been uploaded on the Nepal Police website.

According to the Military Directorate, a joint rescue team including foreigners is continuing the search in the tunnels of various hydropower projects. After the tunnel head was found in the Trishuli-3A project, work is underway to provide air from the compressor, drain the water inside the tunnel, and build an alternative route using three excavators.

In the Trishuli-3B project, a team of experts is also working to find the entrance to the tunnel and dig it using excavators.

Roads Blocked Across Nepal Due to Continuous Rain; Alternative Routes Established

The Nepal Police has stated that roads and highways in various districts of the country have been blocked due to continuous rain. In a bulletin issued by the police this morning, it is mentioned that traffic has been completely stopped due to landslides and floods in some road sections, while alternative roads have been arranged for some routes.

According to the bulletin, the road has been completely blocked due to the Trishuli River erosion at Krishnabhir, Benighat Rorang Rural Municipality-7 along the Prithvi Highway in Dhading. The lower part of the road has been blocked due to the flood at Parewabhir, Gajuri Rural Municipality-2 on the same highway after the lower part of the road has been submerged by about 20 to 25 meters.

A structure will be built to allow vehicles to drive over gabion walls in Krishnabhir. The meeting of the Ministry of Infrastructure Development held on Tuesday regarding the operation of the Prithvi Highway and immediate and long-term solutions decided to proceed with the construction of necessary structures immediately to restore the supply chain to the disaster-affected areas and the capital.

In Makawanpur, the police have made alternative arrangements for vehicle operation on various highways and have stated that goods and large passenger vehicles up to 10 wheels should use the Tribhuvan Highway when going to Kathmandu and the Kanti Highway when returning.

India Sends Fifth Batch of Aid as Korean Rescue Team Arrives in Nepal

Indian External Affairs Minister Dr. S Jaishankar has informed that the fifth batch of aid has been sent to Nepal by plane on Wednesday morning. India has sent the fifth batch of aid to Nepal, including an 11-member rescue team and 5.5 tons of medicines, for the rescue and relief of the Bhotekoshi flood victims in Rasuwa.

Earlier, on 14 Bhadra, India had sent the fourth plane with 11 tons of relief materials and a technical team to Nepal. Various countries and international organizations, including India, are providing assistance to the affected areas.

An 11-member South Korean disaster relief team arrived in Kathmandu on Wednesday morning for search and rescue after the flood that hit Bhotekoshi in Rasuwa on 10 Bhadra. According to Nepali Army spokesperson Rajaram Basnet, the team has also brought search and rescue equipment and dogs with it.

The Nepali Army will also be deployed in the affected areas along with the Korean rescue team for search and rescue, and 9 Korean citizens are uncontacted. A small Korean team of four has already arrived in Nepal and has been deployed in the flood-affected area.

Largest Insurance Claim in Natural Disaster History: Rs 25.87 Billion Filed

The devastating flood that hit Bhotekoshi in Rasuwa on Bhadra 10 has already led to claims of more than 25 billion rupees in non-life insurance companies. As of Monday, 583 claims have been filed by 15 insurance companies, according to the Nepal Insurance Authority. According to the authority, the estimated claim amount is 25.87 billion rupees.

This amount is the largest insurance claim so far in disaster and emergency insurance claims. Earlier, the 2072 earthquake had claimed an insurance claim worth Rs 16.82 billion. Similarly, the NRA has reported claims worth Rs 13 billion for the floods in Asoj 2081 and Rs 23.5 billion for the Gen-G movement in Bhadra 2082.

Now, due to the floods in Bhotekoshi, the number of claims has been higher than in the past due to natural disasters and the number is still increasing. Accordingly, companies say that this number and amount will increase further.

The floods have caused a large number of human and material losses. No claims have been received in life insurance on the human side so far. However, large claims have already been submitted to non-life insurance companies. Hydropower projects, houses, hotels, businesses and businesses located around the Bhotekoshi and Trishuli rivers have been affected by the floods. Similarly, hundreds of vehicles have also been washed away.

NEA Director Sambharaj Lamichhane said that the claims coming from the Rasuwa flood will be facilitated by giving priority. "Earlier, we had also facilitated the claims coming from the Gen-G movement. At that time, we had issued instructions to give a 50 percent advance payment as per the government's instructions," he said, "This time too, we are preparing to proceed with the claim process accordingly. We are in discussions."

Oriental Insurance alone has received claims worth Rs 13.42 billion with eight claims. United Ajod Insurance has received 38 claims worth Rs 4.97 billion, Sanima GIC has received 102 claims worth Rs 2.10 billion and Siddhartha Premier has received 67 claims worth Rs 1.88 billion.

According to the data, infrastructure alone has received claims worth Rs 20.5 billion. 52 claims have been received in the flood-affected areas. There are a large number of hydroelectric projects in the flood-affected areas. Road and bridge construction work was also underway. Due to this, the largest claim has been received in infrastructure, i.e. engineering and contract risk insurance.

7,570 Houses Destroyed, National Road Damage Estimated at Rs 30 Billion

There are preliminary reports that 7,570 private houses in five districts have been damaged by the devastating floods in the Bhotekoshi and Trishuli rivers. According to the details collected by the Department of Urban Development and Building Construction, a large number of private houses have been affected by the floods in Rasuwa, Nuwakot, Dhading, Gorkha and Chitwan.

The department has stated that 1,253 houses are missing. Similarly, 6,317 houses have also been severely damaged by the floods, most of which have reached a state of reconstruction. That is, a large part of the damaged houses are not in a condition to be repaired immediately.

Rabindra Bohara, Director General of the department, said that preliminary reports have been received that 7,580 private houses have been damaged in five districts due to the floods. "The department's team has gone to the field and collected details of the damage. It shows that 7,580 houses have been damaged," he said. "Private houses alone have suffered damage worth Rs 17.31 billion."

According to him, the flood has damaged 45 government buildings. It is estimated that the damage to those buildings alone is worth around Rs 4.5 billion. The department has stated that the work of collecting detailed details of the damage caused by the flood to houses and government structures is ongoing.

National road infrastructure worth Rs 30 billion has been damaged in road infrastructure due to the floods. The flood has completely damaged 40 km of the 82 km long Galchhi-Syafrubesi-Rasuwa road, which needs to be reconstructed. In addition, the Krishnabhir road section of the Prithvi Highway has been damaged. Similarly, 31 bridges have been washed away and three more bridges have been damaged.

Overall, the damage to the national road has been estimated at Rs 30 billion, said Dr. Vijay Jaisi, Director General of the Road Department. He said that the reconstruction is estimated to cost Rs 50 billion. He said that the reconstruction process will now be taken forward after conducting the necessary studies.
